Wednesday's Passage: 1 Peter 2:4-8

Here's a great passage, but Peter uses a building example here that can be confusing if you don't understand a few ideas.

First, a cornerstone is the first stone laid when building, and every other stone is laid depending on this first stone. The location of the building and the placement of every stone is based on the cornerstone.

Second, if a builder doesn't think a stone is the right size or shape he won't use it as a cornerstone.

Third, ask yourself what the holy building is. (Hints: Christ is the cornerstone and believers are the other stones.)

This is a cool passage so have fun and enjoy what God might say to us.

Wednesday's Passage: 1 Peter 1:1-7

Here we go with a fresh book and a fresh start. We've read from John and Paul's writings, now let's take a look at 1 Peter together. Peter writes from Rome to the believers in Asia Minor sometime around 60 AD(map: http://www.enterthebible.org/Bible.aspx?rid=1111). He begins by teaching on the new life that we find in God through Christ (Chapters 1&2). He shows how to live this new life in a broken world (2:11-4:19).

Tuesday's Passage: Colossians 1:1-8

I really enjoyed reading through 1 John with you all. Looking forward to the next few weeks as we read through Colossians. Paul writes to the Church in the city of Colosse. He's never visited them but has heard from Epaphras concerning them. He writes to encourage them. He focuses on the truth of the gospel (1:9-2:7), the false teachings of the time (2:8-23), and the Christian life (3:1-4:6). Tuesday's Passage: 1 John 3: 7-10

I realized a few days ago that I'm always trying to figure out scripture. I'm always asking questions about historical context, literary context, what do the words mean and why were they said this way. Too often I leave scripture when I feel like I've fiqured it out, instead of taking what I've figured out and letting God change me. Let the Spirit of God reveal truth to you, and then be sure to let it talk to you about you. Let's share together!

1 John

So today we start reading and thinking and loving together. I've been praying, and I believe God is leading us to start in 1 John, so let's get going! Remember, pray that God would speak to you, read the passage, take some time to understand John and listen to God, and finally share what you're learning.

Monday's Passage: 1 John 1:1-4

This Is Not My Blog!

This is not my blog; it's our blog. I don't want to use this blog to rant about my life, my personal feelings and opinions, or my ideals. I want us to use this blog to become God lovers. Learning about God leads us to learn of God's love. God's love inspires us to love in return. My hope and prayer for this blog is that we would read scripture together, and we would share with each other what God's Spirit shares with us.

How this blog works is actually quite simple. I'll post a scripture reference each day followed by what I'm learning from God from that passage. Then, hopefully, you all will respond with what God's Spirit is teaching you. There will be days when you or I will read a passage and walk away with a confused heart and a dumb look on our face, that's ok. Be honest and post that you've read it, but you don't get it (we'll be glad to know that you're a normal human with limitations). Just read through what the others are writing, and God may use his Spirit and their thoughts to speak to you.

Two recommendations. First, let's quote the scriptures as often as we can. Our words are important, but not as important as the scriptures. The universal truth the scriptures are speaking will be found in the words of the scriptures. Second, be sure to share how we should respond to these truths. If the universal truth of the passage is "love your neighbor", then let's talk about how we are actually going to do that everyday.

Can't wait to share this life and the scriptures with you! Let's grow!
