  1. This one is pretty cool a little tough to fit all together though. In the first part of this passage we see John telling the people who are in the faith and know Jesus and are children of God have beaten Satan the evil one. Wow how great the feeling is just to know that we have defeated sin because Christ did. Though we do sin we are forgiven. Also in this passage John talks about how the world or Satans temptations are not of God and anyone who only seeks the pleasures of this world does not love God. I want to ask everyone that reads this to not let this happen to you. Don't conform to Satan's temptations to the best of your ability, but also know that if you do slip and fall into Satan's grasp that if you know the Father and The Son amd have them living inside you through the Holy Spirit that they are there to pull you from sins grasp and help you defeat Satan over and over again all you have to do is ask... W0W!!!

  2. Verses 12-14 are really encouraging. John writes to us because God is doing in us all the things John has mentioned so far in his letter. We are forgiven, known by God, and his Word lives in us overcoming the evil one.

Maybe, your confused by John telling us "Do not love the world" when he just finished encouragaing us to love others. "The world" that John talks about is explained in verse 16. John doesn't mean hate God's people and creation; John tells us to hate the evil cravings, like lust and pride, that are not from God but are Satan's perversion of what God created.

Our world and its desires can be sooo hard to resist. They will take up as much room in our lives as they can. We cannot love both God and the pleasures of this world. This passage seems so hard to swallow. But, I know that God lives in me and with him we are able to overcome the evil one.

  3. I find these verses extremely uplifting. John lets us know that whether we have been in the faith for 80 years or 80 days, we are still welcome and have a place in God's kingdom. It is nice to be reminded that we are strong and have already defeated evil. In verses 15-17, John reminds us just how deceitful our world really is. It's important to be reminded that those of us who follow God will live forever when we are surrounded by people who live only for themselves.
