Here we go with a fresh book and a fresh start. We've read from John and Paul's writings, now let's take a look at 1 Peter together. Peter writes from Rome to the believers in Asia Minor sometime around 60 AD(map: http://www.enterthebible.org/Bible.aspx?rid=1111). He begins by teaching on the new life that we find in God through Christ (Chapters 1&2). He shows how to live this new life in a broken world (2:11-4:19).

We are "foreigners" or "exiles"! We do not belong to this world or it's way of thinking. We live differently. We think differently. We love differently. But I find myself constantly being tempted to want the worlds' stuff and to judge the way the world judges and to see things the way they show them on the big screen. Being godly instead of worldly is difficult, but Peter reminds us that faith is worth the fight for purity. We have a "priceless inheritance" worth the cost of being different and holy. We must not get comfortable in the world; we belong to a kingdom far greater.
ReplyDeleteI think it's hard to not be very worldly, but having faith will result in something WAY better. Although right now we might not have faith because so many bad things are happening, having faith is totally worth it.
