Tuesday's Passage: 1 John 1:5-10

Sorry to post so late today! I'll start posting them in the morning. Anyways, let's get going. Remember, pray that God would speak to you, read the passage, take some time to understand John and listen to God, and finally share what you're learning.

  1. I love how John helps us think through our struggle with sin! His answer is simple: confess. Don't act like we're not sinners. Don't be jerks to other sinners. Be honest! We do our best to live and walk in the light (God's way), and when we screw up we run to him, confess, let him clean us up, and then we get back on track.

  2. I think this is something a lot of people have trouble with: saying they are a follower but then do things that a follower wouldn't do. And because some people (or everyone at times, really) don't like admitting they have sinned to anyone, or even God, they get farther and farther away from Him. I agree with you, Stroo, because we DO need to confess, be honest, and know that we ARE sinners... but if we confess to God, we'll be forgiven and we'll be in a close relationship with Him.

  3. good points all the way around. Madison, I think you are spot on in saying that this is a very common occurrence. I think it is important also to note that from this passage we get a glimpse of the faithfulness of God as well as His ideas of justice.

  4. I think the thing is that we all sin (which is something we all known); therefore, we all need His forgivness but it is up to us not to take advantage of this free forgivness God gives us whenever we call on it. It is really important to be honest when asking God for forgivness- Why lie to Him?? He already knows!

  7. I really loved the part where John writes "So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth". I think this goes along a little bit with what Madison was saying. This also kind of goes along with what the point of one life week was. (finding and getting in touch with the spirit and letting God speak to you through the spirit in everyday life) I think that it is safe to say that John means that those who don't include the spirit in their life isn't living with God and I just thought that was cool... Great passage and great analogies:)
