So today we start reading and thinking and loving together. I've been praying, and I believe God is leading us to start in 1 John, so let's get going! Remember, pray that God would speak to you, read the passage, take some time to understand John and listen to God, and finally share what you're learning.

I loved the first four verses of the letter. John explains what he's writing and why. John is proclaiming his experiences (what he "heard, saw, touched") concerning the Word of life, Jesus. He proclaimes these experiences so that those who didn't get the chance to be with Jesus can still believe on him and join the fellowship. John writes because Christ gets glory from it, John gets joy from it, and others receive grace, forgiveness, and a family in Christ.
ReplyDeleteMan, I'm praying that God would give me the same desire and passion to share my God experiences with the rest of the world. I've known God's love and goodness and there are many who haven't. Let us share, with courage and love, all that God is doing in and around us. John reminds us that our joy will be most complete when we share what Christ has done and is doing in our lives and the world.
I think that it is really cool that John stresses the fact that the life was "made manifest to us". It is not necessarily about anything we did, but that God loved us enough to include us by giving us this great life.
ReplyDeleteI also really like the emphasis placed on fellowship or community. It is a good reminder of what we should seek, relationship first with God thru Jesus and then relationship with people with the hope that they come to this same fellowship with God that we have.
